The Role of Innovation in the Coatings Industry When Every Color Must be Green
Like the assets we protect, the brands we enhance, and the beauty we deliver, the coatings industry has remained remarkably strong and resilient through two years of aggressive field testing in a pandemic economic environment. Indeed, resiliency has long been at the heart of the coatings industry, and often one of the most important functions that our solutions and offerings deliver to the world around us. Today, the resiliency of coatings technology has yet another contribution to make, in leading the way toward a more sustainable future. From providing the protection to extend the service life of assets, to adapting formulations toward more sustainable chemistries, to re-engineering application technologies to save resources, our industry is once again demonstrating our resilience to adjust to a world where every color must be green.
Please join Eastman CTO, Dr. Chris Killian, as he discusses how the resilience of our technology innovation and creativity are leading the coatings industry to answer the call to carry our customers to a more sustainable future, from coatings that save energy & reduce material use, coatings that reduce waste through improving the durability and lifetime of assets, coatings that improve the safety and wellness of the consumers they touch, and coatings that will drive the circular economy. For thousands of years, coatings makers have answered the call when customers went in search of color – and that’s no different today, when the color of choice is green.
Dr. Killian joined Eastman in 1996 as a research chemist. During his career at Eastman, he held various positions in technology and business areas. These positions included technology manager, director Polymers Technology, director of the TritanTM Growth Platform, director Coatings and Adhesives Technology, VP for Advanced Materials Technology and VP for Additives and Functional Products, Chemical Intermediates and Corporate Technology, among others. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in organic chemistry from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
